park : tree huts

the ultimate tree house : located in the city : high as a skyscraper

Hi Everyone!

We read about the Tadashi Kawamata Tree Huts in Madison Square Park a while ago, but saw them for the first time last week. These tree houses are terrific. I just wish they weren't so high up. I'd love to decorate them with some pink roses.

The song Cherry Blossom Girl by the French band Air (new to me) seems to be perfect tree climbing music, not that I'm suggesting anyone actually climb a tree. But, I will suggest that you have a great weekend!

xo, Cindy

  3. I always dreamed of a tree house when I was little. Hopefully one day when we have kids (and a yard) we'll be able to build a tree house.

  5. I always wanted a tree house. My brother and I tried to build one, minus the tree. We didn't get too far! I love these, they look so fun!

Thank you for your sweet comment. The picture was from my birthday in June. My mom is loving everyone and their sweet comments...as am I!

  6. it would be neat to 'find' some trees planted in a grid and build a mid-century modern-style tree hut.

  11. These make me think of that childhood (or adult) desire to create a little home with miniature everything! Miniature ketchup bottles and knives and pillows. I would decorate mine with pink roses and invite you over for a mini tea party!

  15. gorgeous photos of central park! did nyc let people build these treehouses in the park? i'm sure i am terribly naive and out of touch when i ask this question but it just seems unlikely that they would allow it. nothing at all wrong with it just not likely in this "you can't do that" too many rules world we live in.

my dad built us a tree house made out of an outhouse (YES!) when we were kids. it had a trap door and windows and a door that closed. we used to have sleepovers in it! oh the memories!

  16. building tree houses must be so cool - the job site would always be so different.

your tree house sounds wonderful, julie! these tree huts were built with permission. if you click on the links above you can read all about the process. also, just look at the scale of the people on the bench (tiny) compared to the height of the hut in the second picture.

  30. everyone should come to town and we'll stand on each other's shoulders in order to peek inside. that's what it would take since they're probably 2 stories high!
