life : come on winter, enough!
NYBG Orchid Show
Hi Everyone -
I hope you all had a very nice weekend! We went to the New York Botanical Garden to see the Orchid Show and it was beautiful (more on that to come). It was also really intimidating with people like the lady below using some seriously, serious cameras. What is that gizmo on the front? I was too shy to ask her.
We also saw some early signs of spring before the snowstorm hit last night (more on that to come, too). Hope all the early growth will survive a few inches of snow. Hope we will, too!
Hellebores
For all of you yearning for winter to finally turn into spring, this adorable video for Winter Song by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson should give you hope. For those of you transitioning in the opposite direction, it will give you a hint about what you can expect ;).
We also saw two really intense movies - Gomorrah based on a 'true' story about the Italian 'mafia' written by Roberto Saviano who currently seems to be in hiding. And, based on Jamie's recommendation, Transiberian about an American couple who encounters a mysterious pair of fellow travelers. I think the moral of each movie is - don't speak to strangers or people who are engaged in strange behavior that might be detrimental to your health.
We'll miss Paul Harvey who passed away this weekend. He was married to his wife Angel for almost 70 years before she died last year. We think he was great and always kept us listening for the 'rest of the story'. As Paul would say, 'good DAY!'
xo, Cindy
You just reminded me that I have to go to that! thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI love the Hellebores photograph! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyay, i know this snow is crazy! glad you watched the movie, thought it captured Russia so well! My husband Tom traveled in Russia and said the trains were really like that! creepy!! If you need a lighter movie, I was going to suggest Priceless - set on the French Riviera- so cute and good in an airy french sort of way! (Audrey Tatou's in it)
ReplyDeleteCurrently holding on to a tree trunk so we don't blow away, can't be that bad in new york! ;)
Looks like you had a great weekend. Yes her camera is scary! I would have been intimidated too, but looks like you got some great photos. Lots of snow here too!
ReplyDeletei LOVE flower shows! our big one is coming up in a few weeks and there are hardcore camera people there, too... then there's me with my lil point and shoot.
ReplyDeleteah well.
spring will be here oh-so-soon! (my fingers are crossed for it)
What a weekend you had! Well, after reading your movie reviews I'm glad you didn't ask the lady about her strange camera gizzmo!
ReplyDeleteHeard you got a lot of snow in NY yesterday. I can't wait for winter to end and see lovely flowers like the ones in you picture everywhere.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteAh, I needed these orchids today, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers...I so want it to be spring! Love the song...it is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteuh what a fun thing to do- and the camera is very scary! not a clue what that gadget is!!!
ReplyDeletemore snow?! it seems like the winter was (is) very long up north this year

Yeah-what is that contraption?
ReplyDeleteI'm too A.D.D. to figure out how to use such contraptions....
Glad you had a fab weekend.
Must see some new movies...those both sound good.
Happy Day to you!
CUTE video... I love Sara's music! BTW... are the flower photos taken by you? If so, may I paint them? Let me know... Fifi
ReplyDeletewow, an orchid show- amazing! and that video is so sweet! since i took an animation class the past 2 weekends, i'm furiously trying to figure out how they created that. i love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song! I love both of those artists so I figured the song wouldn't disappoint. I hope you'll have lots of photos from the orchid show. I remember seeing a whole row of orchid plants at the florist right before they made them into a bouquet for my wedding. At that point it really felt like I was going to get married! They are by far my favorite flower.

Your photos look wonderful! Oh my goodness I have never seen so many whistles on a camera. It looks like there is 2 flashes around the lens. Oh dear I have a lonnnng way to go.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your weekend was perfect. Enjoy!
Hi, I happened upon your blog before Christmas and have been following it since. I have to say I look forward to reading it daily. My husband and myself saw Gomorrah at the Toronot Film Festival in September and although it is a very intense film about the dark side of life in Naples, I thought it was extremely well done. I have since read that the author of the book is indeed in hiding and travels with a body guard!

thanks everyone! that women's camera was intimidating and so was she ;).
ReplyDeletejamie - we saw a preview, love audrey tatou! love saying tatou! hope i spelled it correctly ;).
wunderbug - point n shoots are very good, i'd love a new one, they're so light and small.
fifi - of course!
jess - i see music videos in your future!
kylie - more orchids to come. your wedding must have been so lovely.
hi betty! the movie was so real it almost felt like a documentary. not a 'glamorous' perspective at all.
Great shots Cindy! Looks like a beautiful way to spend the day... Daylight Savings Time is just around the corner- we can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteI would be scared of that camera too! I am quite curious as to what the contraption does, however. With or without a strange contraption, you captured beautiful flower photos that make me quite excited for spring. Last night, I smelled blooming jasmine in my neighborhood and it just made my entire week.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics. I wish i could go the the botanical garden here as well.. Winter just needs to leave us for good...Spring, would you come already?!!
