Hi Folks -
Well, as you know I was in the doghouse, yesterday. Here's the story. I always send Cindy a text message when I get to work. I drive about 20 miles and sometimes it can take more than an hour. The other day, I forgot and she wasn't able to get hold of me for two hours, so she was a bit upset. It's understandable, but I didn't run off to Argentina to hook-up with my 'soul mate' or anything. Anyway, over the years I've developed some helpful tips to get out of the doghouse when I find myself there occasionally -
- Apologize with no 'buts' attached. 'I'm sorry, but _____' is not going to work.
- It's not a good time to start complaining about her annoying stuff.
- Don't even think about trying to buy your way out of trouble at least with my wife.
- Accept that you might have short-term relapses as someone is a bit cranky with you.
- Never, never ask this question 'Is it that time of month?'
Scott
PS Cindy said you should check out the video from Neko Case for People Got A Lotta Nerve. It's an interesting choice.
ha! a very good list. i am passing it along to a certain someone. a certain someone who decided to go surfing a few weeks ago at 7:30am and nary a peep was made before a salty and sandy return home...five hours later. obviously concern from a certain someone else was warranted: hello? shark attacks! nose dives into shallow water! paralysis! harumph.
ReplyDeleteenjoyed your tips....
ReplyDeletemy scott was upset with our daughter when she forgot to text that she was safe at her friend's house, and then left her phone in the other room and he wasn't able to get her at all. he just couldn't understand how she could forget.......and then the next day, he did almost the same thing. needless to say....she didn't get in as much trouble as he originally thought she would :)

erin - i would have definitely thought shark attack, but my mind does get carried away with it. usually, people are ok, but we did have a situation when scott was incomunciado because he was in a car accident.
ReplyDeletemichelle - your daughter is so lucky this time, she was saved by the dad.
i think scott's list is very good, but he forgot one. don't suddenly get all dopey like vinny barbarino in welcome back kotter 'what, what? ;)"
cindy, your husband gets a round of applause for that heartfelt apology! in public, no less!
ReplyDeleteI applaud you Scott, I like your list!
ReplyDeleteand is that a photo of you?? well, no wonder you in the air conditioned apartement! who could stay angry? you obviously been training charming for a while!
Glad Cindy isn't too upset. I ain't the worrying type, so i used to drive my mother nuts by not calling when she asked. but now i do understand her, she does worry, so i try very hard to remember and call when she asks me. luckily o and me are both non-worriers and totally bad at calling..
Cindy - that should buy him some points! And just looking at that vintage shot should melt your cold, cold heart! bwa-ha-ha-ha! :)
ReplyDeleteyeah, he's ok ;)! he's a pretty cute little kid and that hammer he's holding is interesting. wonder if it's some kind of message?
ReplyDeleteThese are great tips that I every husband should follow! Love it:)
ReplyDeleteVery good tips Scott! I need to share these with my husband so he can get out of the doghouse quicker each time.... :)
ReplyDeletewonderful wonderful post! i am partial to apologies without the but. they {at least} seem so much more genuine.

ReplyDeleteScott! Incredible advice. I need Andrew to read these morsels of aged wisdom :) Unlike Cindy, there's the potential that Andrew could buy his way out of the doghouse!
ReplyDeletehey scott...you've got it down brother! good man!
