life | absent friends
when i take still life photos i always try to get two. i like pairs. balance. maybe that's why i loved the world trade center so much? two buildings. two views. tomorrow is the ninth anniversary of 9.11.01 and it's hard to believe it's been that long or that it happened at all. so many things have changed and yet so many remain the same.
zinnias have always been such a happy flower to me, but in the language of flowers they represent 'thoughts of absent friends'. i never knew that and will always look at them differently, now. enjoy your weekend.
xo, cindy
ps it would be a very good thing if everyone got aboard the peace train by yusuf islam formerly cat stevens. there's plenty of room for love, but please check the hate at the door.
Never knew that about zinnias. Gorgeous shots- I too, will think of them differently now!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to me that it's been 9 years... I can't really wrap my brain around that.
Have a great weekend girlie!
that's a sweet post Cindy I can feel the pane and the sadness trough these words, I will have a prayer for peace tomorrow! These flowers look so happy and cheerful!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots and beautiful message. I can't believe it's been 9 years, we must never forget but also hope for peace. Hugs to you back east!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post my friend! I can't believe it has been 9 years either. The impact seems like yesterday. Have a wonderful weekend. xo
ReplyDeleteinstead of remembrance, looks like it's going to be a day of protest and other craziness, or at least that's the perception from all the news coverage. makes me sad.
ReplyDeletehaha, cindy, i started playing that song and baby girl just started wiggling like crazy inside my tummy!
ReplyDeleteChecking hate at the door is a very good idea - especially this time of year.
ReplyDeletebeautiful sentiments... and beautiful photos. :)
ReplyDeleteCindy, how meaningful about zinnias... an older friend patiently taught me to plant flowers - zinnias - when I was a stressed young mother and she could tell I needed flowers in my life. She was gone from cancer within a year, and I have missed her absence ever since... but always been grateful for her gift, and think of her every time I see zinnias.
ReplyDeleteAnd I will climb aboard either version of Yusuf's Peace Train at any time, gladly checking hate at the door :)
Much Love xoxo
The saturation of color in those zinnias is fabulous!!!Happy Weekend to you and Scott!
ReplyDeletei don't even know what to say meg, other than i'm sorry. i never imagined zinnias to hold such a meaning because they are just not gloomy flowers. maybe that's the point?
ReplyDeletepotential protesters should sit and listen to all the names being read of those you died on this day. it takes four hours. then, if they still want to protest, go ahead.
these are gorgeous. i love things in pairs as well.
ReplyDeletehugs :)
xo Alison
Cindy, I think that's totally the point. I think of my friend with happiness because of her gift of self :)
