we messed up. we thought easter was a week before the actual date and made reservations to go to east hampton. we're bad relatives because we didn't spend the holiday with our families. we never said we were perfect and made it up to them the week before and will again this weekend. even though it was cold and there was a storm on the horizon, it was great to go back to the beach because sometimes you need a change of scenery no matter what it takes.

ps that last photo is my version of rolling in the deep, especially at night :).

scott was on vacation last week and we lived the glamorous life by getting our carpet cleaned, which led to a lot more cleaning, the car serviced, visits to the dentist, and other routine chores, but we did take an afternoon off to visit wave hill for some pretty springtime blooms (love those fluffy pink trees) and very cool art like the photo collage by fred tomaselli.

thanks so much for the nice words this week about the shop and all. i promise not to go on & on about the shop all the time, but i won't promise not to be corny from time to time by wishing you all a hOppy weekend. i didn't check, but i'm pretty sure i said the same thing this time last year. these photos are from tinsel trading recently and they sure know how to decorate, don't they? enjoy the holiday & your weekend!

ps happy birthday to my brother who is leaving for las vegas, today. one word for him - hangover.

Gingham Apron

i photographed my mom's handmade apron back in july 2009 and submitted it to pictory for a happy place showcase last september. yesterday, i found out it was included in a gorgeous handmade showcase curated in conjunction with etsy and i could not be happier. sometimes, you work & work & work and wonder if you're getting anywhere, so to be included with such incredible photographers is a just reward.

the timing is also interesting since i just opened a vintage etsy shop, and although this apron is vintage, it will never be for sale.

life | spring, you there?

Magnolia
Flower Door
Stoop
Birdhouse

it has been really cold, rainy and windy this spring, which doesn't make you want to go to a public garden. but, we've realized there are plenty of spring blooms right here in the city and how cute is that little birdhouse? it seems to be scaled to size of the typical nyc apartment :). enjoy the day.

ps it's still a work in progress (especially the banner), but i have started to add things to our vintage shop. let me know what you think if you get a chance and please sign-up for our mailing list here.

life | pretty blooms

Flowering Tree
a flowering tree just down the street.

Flower Shop
bouquets in a store window that just so happens to be called scott's flower shop.

Daffodils
daffodils on the night stand.

i recently learned about the band the civil wars and love them, especially the song falling. i suppose it's an appropriate band to mention today since it's the 150th anniversary of the civil war. but actually, i wish there were no war anniversaries to commemorate.

ps have you seen what bella sinclair is doing to benefit the american red cross for the japanese disaster relief fund? it's wonderful.

fun | brooklyn flea+

Brooklyn Flea
we went to brooklyn flea in williamsburg last sunday to check out the vintage & handmade sellers, and although super-windy & chilly, it was a lot of fun. it's located on the east river and has such a great view of the city and really good food to boot - best lobster roll ever w/butter vs. mayo from red hook lobster.

Brooklyn Flea
isn't this portable desk cool? the flea market will be at this outdoor location throughout the summer and i'm sure we'll go back, often.

we didn't buy much (this time), but took home the letter Q and a hankie to replace the one i recently lost.

Model Entourage
while there, we lounged around with our posse for an impromptu photo shoot. not.

Chalkboard
and, saw some chalk board art in the neighborhood. i was tempted to erase clara in put in cindy, but i'm not bad in that way.

i've definitely fallen off my three-day a week posting schedule, but i'm not going to apologize because i don't like when bloggers feel they should do so. it's supposed to be fun, just like the weekend. i wouldn't mind a repeat of the last one. enjoy yours!

Central Park
Central Park

i'm anxious to start visiting the places in the new york city garden guide i bought last fall, so we went to the conservatory garden located in northern central park on saturday. somehow, we managed to walk more than 3 miles and felt it that evening. it's still a bit early for spring flowers, but i can see the potential.

Dried Flowers
Ice Cream Love

in addition to spring weather being a little bit closer, i'm happy to welcome april because at this point i've completed 3-months of my 365-photo project. it's absolutely a challenge, but i want to keep this streak alive. happy weekend!
