life : come on winter, enough!

NYBG Orchid Show

Hi Everyone -

I hope you all had a very nice weekend! We went to the New York Botanical Garden to see the Orchid Show and it was beautiful (more on that to come). It was also really intimidating with people like the lady below using some seriously, serious cameras. What is that gizmo on the front? I was too shy to ask her.

We also saw some early signs of spring before the snowstorm hit last night (more on that to come, too). Hope all the early growth will survive a few inches of snow. Hope we will, too!

Hellebores

For all of you yearning for winter to finally turn into spring, this adorable video for Winter Song by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson should give you hope. For those of you transitioning in the opposite direction, it will give you a hint about what you can expect ;).

We also saw two really intense movies - Gomorrah based on a 'true' story about the Italian 'mafia' written by Roberto Saviano who currently seems to be in hiding. And, based on Jamie's recommendation, Transiberian about an American couple who encounters a mysterious pair of fellow travelers. I think the moral of each movie is - don't speak to strangers or people who are engaged in strange behavior that might be detrimental to your health.

We'll miss Paul Harvey who passed away this weekend. He was married to his wife Angel for almost 70 years before she died last year. We think he was great and always kept us listening for the 'rest of the story'. As Paul would say, 'good DAY!'

xo, Cindy

yay, i know this snow is crazy! glad you watched the movie, thought it captured Russia so well! My husband Tom traveled in Russia and said the trains were really like that! creepy!! If you need a lighter movie, I was going to suggest Priceless - set on the French Riviera- so cute and good in an airy french sort of way! (Audrey Tatou's in it)
Currently holding on to a tree trunk so we don't blow away, can't be that bad in new york! ;)

What a weekend you had! Well, after reading your movie reviews I'm glad you didn't ask the lady about her strange camera gizzmo!

What a beautiful song! I love both of those artists so I figured the song wouldn't disappoint. I hope you'll have lots of photos from the orchid show. I remember seeing a whole row of orchid plants at the florist right before they made them into a bouquet for my wedding. At that point it really felt like I was going to get married! They are by far my favorite flower.

Hi, I happened upon your blog before Christmas and have been following it since. I have to say I look forward to reading it daily. My husband and myself saw Gomorrah at the Toronot Film Festival in September and although it is a very intense film about the dark side of life in Naples, I thought it was extremely well done. I have since read that the author of the book is indeed in hiding and travels with a body guard!

hi betty! the movie was so real it almost felt like a documentary. not a 'glamorous' perspective at all.

I would be scared of that camera too! I am quite curious as to what the contraption does, however. With or without a strange contraption, you captured beautiful flower photos that make me quite excited for spring. Last night, I smelled blooming jasmine in my neighborhood and it just made my entire week.
