craft : butterfly garlands

congratulations to Joyce who is the winner of our giveaway! thank you all for sharing your summer/winter highlights with us. it was interesting to read how just about all of you enjoyed spending time with your families and we're no different. we also learned about some nice trips people took, too. good to know since we're such terrible trip planners.

after watching the summertime swing video from coldplay i mentioned last week, i made these garlands. i just couldn't take it anymore! they're always featuring butterflies and release paper butterfly confetti during their concerts, which must be so cool!

except for the butterfly craft punch i picked up at michael's with a coupon, i figured i could make my own butterflies using things i already owned. i used vintage wallpaper, scrapbook paper, brown paper bags and doilies for petticoats (inner wings). then, i strung some together using waxed or baker's twine and glue. i'm not quite done with them and sure there will be a few extras for a future giveaway. thanks again for visiting and spending some of your time with us, everyone!

note : after some searching, i found the waxed twine at the caning shop.

xo, cindy

ps you can download a free live album from coldplay on their site. it's really good. i would like to hear more songs like no.7. i write about them, a lot. they should send me some butterflies ;)!

SO CUTE! And random question I really should know the answer to - where does one buy waxed or baker's twine? Just Michael's?

Breath, breath.... Oh my stars! Cindy, Scott (and Charlie too!) Thank you so... much!
I wish you were sitting here when I first opened your post. My eyes went directly to the butterflies (it will be a year this Saturday, my sweet daddy passed away and you know about my butterfly story afterwards)after a few minutes looking at your beautiful butterflies I started to read thinking oh sweet another Joyce won- I don't know too many Joyce so I clicked and landed on my site. Hmmm... that is strange how did I get back here?! I did this a couple of time till it registered. LOL... THANK YOU so much!! Sometimes higher power has a way working the magic at the right time. Have a golden day my sweet friends!! XOXO....

thanks everyone! i bought the waxed twine years ago after seeing something in martha stewart living i'm sure, but i don't remember where i got it. i've never found a use for it until now. i do like this twine because you can give it some form vs. just hanging there limp.

the baker's twine was saved from boxes from the bakery, but you can get it in michael's and people sell it on etsy in all colors, too.

joyce - i didn't know you at the time or the story about the butterfly and your dad. i do now and it is amazing. i got the idea to do these garlands this past weekend. i've never made them before or thought about doing so. it could be a sign because you were so kind to share your personal story since you had experienced a similar health issue as scott's mom and it helped us. i do believe in things like that. i hope it is.

Your garland and the photos of your creation are just magnificent! I love how you have strung the butterflies together so they feel 3D, almost like they are fluttering in place. Gorgeous!
