a few weeks ago charlie decided he wanted to treat himself to new shoes. great! being a new yorker they are all black and include: slippers, sneakers and dress shoes. i'm not sure why he needed the dress shoes, but he insisted.

last weekend, we took him out to lunch and he was wearing the dress shoes, which kind of remind me of herman munster. we head out to the restaurant about 250' door to door and charlie's moving pretty fast. it's all good. then, just as we turn the corner he stops and says "oh no, why did i wear these shoes? it's the first time i took them out of the box and they don't bend. i should have worn my sneakers!" and from that point on he stops every 10' to say the same thing. oy!

fortunately, we made it back, but i don't think we're ever going to see those shoes again and that's fine with us. this weekend we hope to go to the chinese new year parade in flushing, queens and will not be wearing dress shoes :). have a great weekend & don't forget to break in those shoes!

fun : saturday in the city

video : paris nights/new york mornings by corinne bailey rae

the beautiful weather lately is perfect for wandering around the city. on saturday, we went to soho to pick-up a marble pastry board that turned out to be too heavy to take home on the train, but there were plenty of other things to keep us busy.

looking up to see structures that seem to fit together like puzzles.

a favorite local spot for lunch/coffee across the street from purl patchwork, which is where scott usually waits for me. that's not him, but some other dude.

noticing natural elements creatively used, especially the cork heart.

a shop called dosa was the highlight. wow. the handmade clothes are beautiful and delicate. i loved this wall of hearts, which is about 12' high x 20' long completely covered in strands of handmade hearts suspended on wires. incredible.

duct tape in kate spade and handball through a chain link fence create two types of barriers. i hope you had a nice weekend. did you watch the oscars? i thought steve and alec were great and i loved all those ruffly dresses. i was surprised the hurt locker won best picture, but it was very good. intense to say the least. enjoy your week!

fun : socks & boots

video : haven't met you yet by michael bublé
for our canadian friends and scott who loves the supermarket

i love socks. argyle is my favorite and these happy socks are befitting their name. i'd love to put them into my new desert boots with the pretty windowpane lining and the marine aqua shoelaces from crewcuts. yes, i'm regressing, but why should the kids have all the fun? they're actually turquoise, the pantone color of the year.

military-style has also been shown during fall fashion week- yay! now, if only the snow would disappear because these babies are not going to be christened in the slush. how was your weekend? do tell.
