holiday : new traditions
Hi Everyone -
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the time with your families and the goodies you received! Our holiday was very nice and one thing that is great about the season is the tradition. This year, we started a new one that will run all year long. You might find it handy, too.
It all began when someone had a 'minor' tantrum because someone else didn't leave work on time on Christmas Eve and got caught in traffic for 2 hours. Needless to say, there was a bit of a cranky dialogue involved and someone let a cuss word fly. Well, that is a serious infraction in our house with associated financial penalties. However, those penalties are rarely collected and obviously do not serve as effective deterrents.
So, while watching the classic movie The Christmas Story for the trillionth time, there is a scene where the main character, Ralphie, drops the f-bomb and pretty quickly ends up with a bar of soap in his mouth. LIGHTBULB! Pactum factum*, the Octagon Soap and brother, sister does it taste nasty. Just ask Scott ;). Enjoy your weekend!
xo, Cindy
* A done deal in Latin.

oh, cindy, you didn't!;) poor scott!
we counted to 50 and his response was 'it's not so bad'!! it was actually kind of funny, but won't be if i have to do it! i'm deterred - there will be no audible cursing from me ;)!
ha! we watched the movie again on Christmas as well. Classic! When I was little, my mom used to used to rub soap on my tongue for my sailor mouth.... it never worked, I still have a sailor mouth :)
i love it, krissy! if a parent did that now a days, the child would sue!
Oh dear! At least people vented with the person that was late. My husbands family, use to be secretly evil to us,because we would be late sometimes, with good reason. We would always leave in plenty of time, but lo and behold, there would be an accident or something else, and then we would get the evil stare down. ANYWAY...maybe it was uncool to cuss, but at least everything was out in the open!
What a great idea! I'm glad you guys were finally able to be to be together on Christmas Eve...how horrible to be in traffic for so long! I watched the Christmas Story as well...the actual house is not too far from where I live in Cleveland! Our very cool claim to fame!
F'ing awesome, guys!
this post made me laugh out loud cindy! i made my son suck a bar of soap once when he stuck his tongue out at me for the 3rd time (i gave fair warning but he couldn't resist)!! i must say that i never had the heart to make him do it again. he spit for ever!!
Oh damn! Poor Scott. This reminds me of being in first grade...I taped myself saying the f word at home, and told my parents it was my little brother. They put soap in his mouth...I thought I was going to get away scott free (no pun intended) but my cousins just happened to be over and told my parents that I was really the one who had done it. I can still taste the palmolive soap. YUCK!
good for you! I am afraid if I did the same for mr. french he would die of starvation...actually maybe soap has some nutritional value? something to think about! I am glad you had a nice holiday despite the soap incident...xo t
Haha - what a funny tradition! Love it - I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
How funny... We just watched A Christmas Story, another of my favorite holiday movies, the soap scene is almost as bad as the tung sticking. Now, you did not really make Scott taste the soap... Happy, happy new year! May it be filled with peace, love, and more laughter.
