Beach Bunny: "We love surfing, but in the interest of full disclosure, we don't do it."
Kahuna: "Actually, we have experienced the "washing machine spin-cycle" in the ocean from mere ankle busters."
Beach Bunny: "Yeah, total wipe outs!"
Kahuna: "But, we think surf-style and extreme surfers like Greg Noll and Laird Hamilton are really cool."
Beach Bunny: "Some of our favorite surfing movies include: Endless Summer, Riding Giants and Step Into Liquid."
Kahuna: "Skateboarding looks rad, too. I was stoked about the Rob + Big episode where Rob broke all of those world records."
She: "I think I could skateboard."
Kahuna: "That's bogus, you're osteopenic and might break a hip!"
Beach Bunny: "Bummer, maybe they have training wheels, or a baby walker for skateboarding?"
Kahuna: "I think you've got the "walker" part right!"
+++++++++++++++++++++
He: "We might have gone over the top with this one and not in a good way."
She: "I think we might get kicked off the Internet."
He: "Can they do that, whoever "they" are?"
She: "I don't know; there's always a first time."
He: "Well, we can't promise that it won't happen again. Cindy just started muttering something about Lucha Libre with a crazy look in her eye. Stay tuned."
Note: Most of the surfing slang came from here.

He: "We love Italian food!"
She: "You love all food, but Italian is a favorite. You eat it a lot."
He: "Our favorite restaurant in NYC is in Coney Island - La Casa Bella!"
She: "It is excellent - they use fresh mozzarella and basil on the pizza. You bring it home for me since you work near there."
He: "Another favorite is in Sag Harbor - Il Capuccino! It's delicious and very home-style."
She: "You sure are excited. It must be because you have a special birthday today and hope to go to Il Capuccino for dinner."
He: "Yeah, yeah - can we go?"
She: "Of course, but watch the spices."
He: "Right, no crop dusting. Do you think other people know what that means - hahaha?"
She: "I don't know, but I do and that's all that matters. Happy Birthday Cutie!"
He: "Hey, we said no pet names!"
She: I know, it slipped."

I'd like to take a brief interlude from our usual Post A Day in May and share some recent inspiration for a collection of fabric flowers called "Mrs. Forrester". It came to me on Sunday night while I was watching the charming Cranford series on PBS. Cranford was written by Elizabeth Gaskell and takes place in a rural English town on the brink of change in 1840. It has it's share of heartbreak, but often takes a lighter note with some very funny escapades.
These are a few of the things that really struck me from the period costumes -
- Ruffles in eyelet and lace
- Dresses in muted tones and small prints
- Pretty hats
With those things in mind, I made a lavender sachet with the following -
- Two types of eyelet ribbon
- Liberty of London fabric
- Fabric called New England Quilts
- Linen
- Lavender
The name is taken from one of the most delightful characters in the show - Mrs. Forrester. She is so cute and reminds me of a special family friend. This "collection" might be a limited edition of one, because that center ruffle took me a really long time and was eye-to-eye with the trash at one point - ugh!
Note: Scott is having a special birthday this weekend so we're going to be away and computer-free. Have a good one!

We will take a day off to acknowledge the terrible tragedy that has occurred in Myanmar. As the death toll climbs towards 100,000, we hope the government will come to its senses and allow humanitarian relief to enter the country so they can begin to recover.
Update @ 9:00 am est: The first UN relief planes have landed in Myanmar as part of the international airlift of aid to the victims.
She: "We love flowers, but I think I've brainwashed you over the years."
He: "How so?"
She: "I'm not complaining, but you seem very proud of your color choices and picking out the flowers. I'm not sure they're for me anymore!"
He: "Well, I do seem to have a knack for picking out bold color combinations and flowers that last more than a day. Many florists are men you know?"
She: "True."
He: "I only start to cringe when you cut long-stem flowers down to 6"."
She: "I like small bouquets, and once you give them to me they're mine, so there."
He: "Just kidding, your arrangements always look nice + they don't block the tv."

He: "To say we love vintage cars from the 1960s + 70s is an understatement."
She: "That's for sure. Remember how stressed out we got when we were fantasizing about winning the $4 million lottery?"
He: "Yes, it wasn't going to be enough for all the cars we wanted!"
She: "When I grew up my Father was always buying and selling cars, so I got used to seeing lots of them. I had a 1970-something Gold Duster with 8-cylinders and it had a lot of power."
He: "Yeah, you know quite a bit for a girl."
She: "Darn tootin'!"
